Indeed a great prescription that is hard to follow given the interconnectedness of our lives.
However, given most, including myself, spend a good amount of time on social media, there is certainly time to do...nothing...
Here's a thought: I've heard of this Marxist? idea that capitalism/contemporary society has a consuming nature towards rebellion (or anything). Think of "punk" culture being this rebellious cry against society, now largely being turned into a fashion trend and a sort of "status quo of rebellion." A coke without calories scenario.
My question being: is doing nothing another form of "status quo rebellion?" Can doing nothing become another form to profit or consume? "How to Do Nothing 101" for $39.99"
I have seen gurus in the Jungle they’ll call people to go and do their rituals with ayahuasca; Violating whatever bit of sacred these rituals may hold. The same has happened to Mt. Everest, if there was something sacred about climbing it, it sure went away when people lined up for it.
This is what I picture doing Nothing becoming, a retreat for yuppies. People will go to, do nothing for five days and come back expelling, “We are better than others because we afforded to do nothing instead of going vacationing”.
To preserve it requires a consistent act of manipulation. The system never stops manipulating you as it is artificial and runs to infinity. In other words this requires and infinite series of event which multiple doing nothing in its “genuine” form rather than a perverted form that simply merges with what is already there.
I have to force myself to sit there with nothing some days to make room in my head for other things, ideas, plans, etc. Some days I literally have to force myself to disconnect so I do not burn out. I have to tell myself “I deserve to do nothing” even when I don’t believe it.

I really enjoyed this article! I want to try to sit around and do nothing. It’s a bit scary tbh for me at least but worth a shot?!
This is an insane brain hack and 100% true.
